"The mainland tea beverage market is huge and has become one of the fastest-growing beverage categories." 65-year-old Taiwanese businessman Liu Shaokan said that last year he purchased 400 tons of bulk tea in Shiqian, Guizhou, and his target for 2021 is 1,200 tons.

Liu Shaokuan, born in Nantou County, Taiwan, has a deep affection for tea. The Taiwan Longtai Food Tea Co., Ltd. ("Longtai Tea" for short), where he is located, first made tea in Dongding Mountain, Lugu Township, Nantou County.

In 1996, in order to expand the tea business, Liu Mingzhao, chairman of Longtai Tea Industry, decided to follow a large beverage factory in Jiangsu, and Liu Shaokuan followed him to work in the mainland.

"It has been rooted in the mainland for 25 years and has opened 4 companies, supplying 30,000 tons of dry tea to large tea beverage factories each year." Liu Shaokuan said, he is mainly responsible for the Guizhou branch, purchasing summer and autumn tea in Shiqian, Guizhou and processing it into bulk tea.

Shiqian County, known as the "Hometown of Moss Tea in China", has a tea plantation area of nearly 400,000 mu, of which 310,000 mu has been put into production.

In the past, the county basically focused on spring tea picking and sales. Due to the high cost of manual picking and low added value, the summer and autumn tea was hardly picked.

After Longtai Tea Industry settled in Shiqian, no one paid much attention to the large-scale summer and autumn tea "turning waste into treasure", and one acre of tea garden tea farmers can increase their income by more than 400 yuan (RMB, the same below).

In Liu Shaokuan's view, reasonable picking of summer and autumn tea is equivalent to pruning and cutting leaves, which is not only beneficial to the tea trees over the winter, but also promotes the germination of more spring tea in the coming year.

"After attracting investment and entering Shiqian, not only have the corresponding preferential policies for land and taxation, but the local government has also taken good care of us." Liu Shaokuan said that due to the increase in tea purchases in 2021, the Tongren Taiwan Office and Tea Office are currently actively helping to connect. Tea enterprises and tea farmers in other counties.

In addition to purchasing tea, Liu Shaokan also leased 200 acres of adult tea gardens as a tea base in Longtang Town, Shiqian County.

Near the Qingming Festival, the tea garden is full of vitality. Standing in the tree-lined trails of the tea garden, the faint fragrance of tea is scented, and the tea farmers’ hands are skillfully "dancing" among the green tea teeth.

"I came from the countryside of Taiwan. I am a family here. I want to bring local folks to get rich and increase income." Liu Shaokan said, returning to Taiwan twice a year, and spending the rest of the time with his wife in Guizhou to develop the tea industry.

At present, the company under Liu Shaokuan has built a tea storage, processing and delivery center in Shiqian County, and installed a set of fully automatic clean tea production equipment for crude tea. The company will continue to expand its production capacity in the future.

"The mainland market contains huge potential and development opportunities." Liu Shaokuan said, the mainland offers far more opportunities than Taiwan, and here is a field suitable for the development of Taiwan's young people.

The reporter learned that in order to attract Taiwanese compatriots to invest and start businesses in Guizhou, Guizhou issued the "64 Measures" in Huitai in 2018. All industries are fully opened to Taiwanese-funded enterprises, for Taiwan compatriots to invest in Guizhou, start a business, find employment, study, live, etc. It has created better conditions and provided more convenience in accommodation, house purchase, and bank card processing.

"Various measures to benefit Taiwan and the people have made us more and more confident in the development of the mainland." Liu Shaokuan said with a smile, the two sides of the strait are family members, his younger brother married a girl from Jiangsu, and the granddaughter of the company chairman married in Beijing. The marriage between the two sides is infinitely good. Kiss your family.
