His death was pronounced on Thursday, shortly after 6 p.m.
Hit in the head by gunshots Wednesday noon in the Cleunay district of Rennes, Hamzat Labazanov died in his hospital room in Pontchaillou.
He was admitted there on Wednesday in a very serious condition called "brain death".
The young Chechen, who lived in the neighborhood, was 22 years old.
Her 24-year-old brother is still being treated there after being shot in the hip.
As early as Wednesday, a 21-year-old man was arrested by the police not far from Carrefour City on rue Ferdinand de Lesseps where shots were fired.
He had just got rid of a handgun.
Placed in custody, the latter remained silent.
Another suspected assailant had managed to escape.
The numerous testimonies collected by the investigators of the judicial police, supported by the video protection images of the mini-market "tend to incriminate the person arrested as being the author of the shots", indicated the public prosecutor of Rennes Philippe Astruc.
"The provisional detention of the accused will be required by the prosecution," adds the magistrate.
