Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Six instead of five parliamentary groups in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament: The administration must redistribute rooms and create space for the six members of the Free Voters.

"The premises available in the properties of the state parliament are basically sufficient after an initial examination," said state parliament spokesman Marco Sussmann in Mainz.

This applies both to the House of Representatives, in which the parliamentarians have an office with a kitchenette and folding bed, as well as to meeting and office rooms.

The number of MPs had not risen above 101.

The state parliament administration will contact all six parliamentary groups and talk about the allocation of space.

Major modifications are not to be expected.

The new state parliament is to be constituted on May 18.

This is planned as the first meeting in the historic Deutschhaus, whose renovation, which costs around 67 million euros, should be completed by then.

Parliament last met there in December 2015.

However, the pandemic rules could make it necessary for the MPs to meet again in the Rheingoldhalle, as Sussmann said.

In any case, the renovation will soon be completed: The state parliament building is currently in the completion and expansion phase.

"In particular, the interior fittings in the restaurant, the plenary hall area and the cavalier buildings are well advanced."

The heating system is already in operation, the necessary trial operation of the rest of the technology will be started step by step after it has been installed.
