Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has dampened hopes for further opening steps in view of the increasing number of new corona infections in Germany.

Although the numbers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are currently stable, the scientists from the universities of Rostock and Greifswald warned that this could change quickly, Schwesig said after a cabinet meeting on Thursday evening in Schwerin.

"And they said that before opening any further steps, our aim should be to keep what we have opened as much as possible."

The state government has therefore decided to decide on how to proceed only after the federal-state consultations on Monday.

To this end, she coordinated closely with Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, said Schwesig.

With a nationwide stable or falling seven-day incidence of below 100, theaters, outdoor restaurants and cinemas should actually be able to reopen from next Monday.

The nationwide incidence value was 63.8 on Thursday, making it one of the lowest nationwide at the moment.

Schwesig said that in regions with an incidence below 35 - currently only the Hanseatic city of Rostock - pilot projects are possible in principle.

Hansa Rostock can play in front of 777 spectators in the stadium on Saturday.
