His name is Tjeerd de Groot, he is a D66 deputy who has just been reelected.

He's in his forties, a shaven head, he looks very thin in his blue jacket, and of course he's smiling.

“

After ten years in power, we know that as Prime Minister, Mark Rutte is very good at not changing anything in this country… What is happening today is that his way of leading is being called into question. very vigorously,

”he says.

D66 is not, however, new to the Dutch landscape.

As the name suggests, the movement was founded in 1966 and over time has been part of half a dozen governments, including the outgoing executive headed by a certain Mark Rutte.

“

There is certainly no automatic continuation of this coalition.

What matters for us is to dwell on the ambitions of the different parties and not just to count up to 76 seats to achieve a majority in Parliament,

explains Tjeerd de Groot.

For example, there are real challenges on biodiversity, climate, water management.

We know that we are going to have very serious discussions on this

”.

Negotiations should start next week and Tjeerd de Groot does not hide his preference, he would like to work with the left parties to give a progressive shade to the next executive.
