Tajik Dilshod Nazarov, Olympic hammer throw champion in Rio 2016, has been suspended for two years for doping, the Athletics Integrity Unit announced Thursday.

Nazarov was pinned for use of "prohibited substance" after reanalysis of samples taken during the 2011 World Championships. The pitcher had finished 10th in the final of the Daegu Worlds and his test was positive for turinabol (steroid), according to the IAU.

The sanction of Tajik (38) takes effect from September 24, 2019, the date of his provisional suspension.

Nazarov, also vice-world champion in 2015 in Beijing, will therefore not be able to defend his title at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

It also loses the benefit of all its results between August 29, 2011 and August 29, 2013.

Nazarov has a personal best 80.71m since 2013.
