Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, the corona vaccinations with the Astrazeneca agent will be resumed on Friday.

"The interruption was important and right in order to be able to continue vaccinating with confidence," said Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann on Thursday evening.

"We will pick up exactly where we left off: Astrazeneca will be made available to the professional groups for which the vaccinations have already started."

This also included teachers at primary and special schools.

"We are now doing everything we can to quickly reassign the canceled vaccination appointments," said Laumann.

Experts from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) put the approved vaccine to the test again after anomalies became known in some European countries.

The EMA had reaffirmed the safety of the vaccine.

But an extra warning of possible rare cases of blood clots (thrombosis) in cerebral veins will be added, according to the authority.

After the vote by the EMA and consultations with the federal states, Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) stated that the goal was to start injecting the active ingredient again on Friday.
