Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has defended the new staff for vaccination logistics, which is located in the Ministry of the Interior and not in the Ministry of Health.

That was a joint decision between Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU), Health Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) and himself, so that decisions would be made faster and vaccination would pick up more speed, said Woidke in the RBB program Brandenburg Aktuell on Tuesday evening.

"We do not leave Ursula Nonnemacher alone in the rain and rant constantly that the vaccination is not going ahead, but we think together how we can make better progress."

The opposition left faction leader Sebastian Walter sees no improvement.

"The Brandenburger Vaccination Cabinet is now apparently becoming the Brandenburg Vaccination Cabaret," Walter told the RBB.

«The responsibility ping-pong under Dietmar Woidke must finally be over.

It is the first duty now to restore the trust that has been lost when it comes to vaccination. "

CDU parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann supported the decision.

"We have recognized that we have to act faster here," he said on Wednesday on RBB Inforadio.

"I believe that such a crisis team is exactly the right instrument for this."

The situation has to be reassessed every day.

The State Chancellery announced on Tuesday that a vaccination logistics staff would be set up in the Crisis Management Coordination Center in the Interior Ministry.

The crisis team there had already been active last year.

Woidke had repeatedly criticized that Brandenburg ranks last in terms of the proportion of first-time vaccinations in the population.

Brandenburg is now in penultimate place, as shown by figures from the Robert Koch Institute on Wednesday.
