Sweden needs 15 million doses before the end of the first half of the year to meet the vaccination target, according to SKR.

The delivery forecast is currently around 12 million doses.

- With the forecasts that are now, there are not enough doses to offer the entire adult population vaccination, says Emma Spak, head of the health and medical care section at SKR.

SKR already has an agreement with the government that everyone over the age of 18 in Sweden will be offered a vaccine before the end of the first half of the year.

Regions are alarming

Now the agreement risks cracking.

In the county administrative boards' reports to the government, which SVT has reviewed, several regions warn that they do not meet the vaccine target.

- The capacity is in the regions, but deliveries are required in addition to those that have been announced, says Emma Spak.

As recently as a week ago, vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström said that he believes that Sweden can still reach the vaccine target.

A few days later, it became clear that Astra Zeneca would halve its deliveries to the EU and the situation changed.

On Tuesday, the news came that Sweden, just like several other countries, is pausing the vaccination with Astra Zeneca's covid vaccine after reports of suspected side effects.

Minister: "Constructive dialogue"

On the same day, the government invited SKR to negotiations on the vaccine target - which is now ongoing.

"Due to reduced deliveries from the manufacturers and now a break from the use of Astra Zeneca's vaccine, the government is conducting a constructive dialogue with SKR about an adjustment of the common vaccine target," writes Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) in an email to SVT.

It is currently unclear when a decision is expected on the matter.
