Essen (dpa / lnw) - Rot-Weiss Essen suffered the next setback in the promotion race in the West Regional Football League.

On Wednesday, the second in the table in the Regionalliga West had to be content with a 1-1 (1-0) match against leaders Borussia Dortmund II and missed the opportunity to shorten the four-point gap to BVB.

Striker Simon Engelmann (15th minute) gave RWE the lead in the catch-up game on matchday 25 at the Essen stadium with his 21st goal of the season, while Richmond Tachie (76th) equalized for the U23 selection of Bundesliga club BVB.

From the past four league games, RWE coach Christian Neidhart's team only got four points and lost a better starting position in the promotion to the 3rd division.

RWE (58 points), however, played one game less.

The Essen catch-up game against SV Lippstadt is scheduled for April 14th.

The BVB team (62 points) of coach Enrico Maaßen had to accept only one defeat this season and is still unbeaten in 2021.
