Kappeln (dpa / lno) - A hamburger had a fatal accident while fishing in the Schlei near Kappeln (Schleswig-Flensburg district).

Sea rescuers found the 62-year-old drifting in the water not far from his boat on Tuesday, as the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS) announced on Wednesday.

It is unclear how the accident came about.

According to DGzRS, the water in the Schlei currently has a temperature of five degrees Celsius.

The captain of a tug had alerted the sea rescuers because he saw a small rubber dinghy and a person in the water shortly after Rabelsund.

However, due to the draft of his tug, he could not approach himself.

The lifeboat “Hellmut Manthey” ran out in the direction of the dinghy.

Inside was just a jacket and a bucket of fish.

The emergency services recovered the man who was floating in the water about 200 meters away and attempted resuscitation.

Then they took him to Kappeln.

He was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.

However, the man did not survive.

During another operation on Tuesday evening in the Baltic Sea off Strande (Rendsburg-Eckernförde district), sea rescuers came to the aid of the crew of an unmaneuverable fishing cutter.

Part of the net had gotten into the cutter's propeller.

Therefore, the ten meter long boat drifted off the beach.

The daughter boat of the rescue cruiser SK 41 towed the cutter into the port of Strander.
