Aachen (dpa / sn) - The volleyball women of the Dresdner SC have made a big step towards the playoff semifinals.

In the first of a maximum of three games of the quarter-finals, the first round won 3: 1 (25:21, 25:23, 11:25, 25:17) against the Ladies in Black Aachen on Wednesday.

The second game will take place next Saturday in Dresden.

With another victory, the protégés of trainer Alexander Waibl would end the series "Best of three" prematurely and successfully.

In the event of a defeat, the play-off game would be played in the same place 24 hours later.

Both teams fought hard in the first two sets, in which the guests from Saxony played off their individual quality and cleverness in the final phase and made fewer mistakes.

In the third section, however, the thread of the favorite broke, and the Ladies in Black fought for the end of the sentence after a quick and clear lead.

The fourth round was also contested at first, but with a series of services from Madeleine Gates, the DSC gained a six-point lead that the team never gave up.

After 96 minutes, the DSC converted the first match ball with a block defense against the most successful Aachen scorer Kristina Kicka (17 points).
