Düsseldorf / Berlin (dpa / lnw) - In the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion (MIT) of the CDU and CSU there is a dispute over a paper to reform public broadcasting.

In a letter to the MIT federal board, the Düsseldorf state parliament member Angela Erwin (CDU) writes that the draft should be "rejected in its entirety from a media-political point of view".

She also wrote this on behalf of the MIT state chairman, Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU).

Among other things, the paper stipulates that in future there will only be one public broadcasting corporation.

Erwin asks not to take a decision on the paper on Wednesday (March 17th).

In her letter, which is available to the German Press Agency, she questions the entire process: “Already at the last board meeting I pointed out that from my point of view, media policy is not one of MIT's core issues and the previous coordination and information process is not went happily. "

Otherwise Erwin added numerous suggestions for changes to the paper.

The MIT paper calls, among other things, to redefine the tasks of public service broadcasting in the age of Youtube and Netflix.

The draft states, among other things: "The cultural and entertainment offer is to be reduced to a basic supply that is limited to content that cannot be economically offered by private providers."

In addition, there should only be one public institution.

"The previous stations are to merge under this roof."

Also from 74 radio stations a “significant part should be dropped”.

A "broadcasting parliament" should monitor the one remaining institution.

The SME and Economic Union is one of the most influential associations of the CDU and CSU.

According to its own statements, the association has 25,000 members.

About half are therefore also party members.
