Erfurt (dpa / th) - The parliamentary groups of the Left, SPD and Greens in the Thuringian state parliament have decided to set up a committee of inquiry into mafia investigations.

It should go to the background of the investigation with the code name "Fido" against the Italian mafia in the Free State about twenty years ago, as the parliamentary groups announced on Wednesday.

The Thuringian state parliament should formally set up the committee in its meeting from April 21 to 23, 2021.

At that time, a complex investigation was conducted against the Calabrian mafia organization 'Ndrangetha.

An undercover agent was also used.

However, the proceedings were discontinued in 2002.

The three groups now want to find out what circumstances led to the termination of the proceedings.

In addition, it should be clarified whether there were any indications of possible connections between the accused at the time and politics, administration and the judiciary.
