Schwerin (dpa / mv) - For the expansion of the after-school care center in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there is a new federal and state program worth around 12.7 million euros.

Social minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) announced on Wednesday that new buildings and conversions as well as renovations and extensions would be funded.

There could also be money from the program for furniture, play and sports equipment and sanitary facilities if the purchases are intended for additional childcare places for primary school children.

According to the ministry, the federal government is contributing 10.4 million euros, which the state is co-financing with a good 2.3 million euros.

The municipal contribution is also around 2.3 million euros.

The money from the funding program is distributed according to the number of primary school children in the districts and urban districts.

The funding guidelines for the investment program to expand the after-school care center came into force on Tuesday.
