Kiel (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein's foreign trade came through the Corona crisis in a stable overall last year.

The export volume fell by 1.1 percent to 20.7 billion euros, as the North Statistics Office announced on Tuesday.

In contrast, imports increased by 1.1 percent to 23.3 billion euros.

The most important export country in 2020, despite a decrease of 13.8 percent, remained the USA with 1.64 billion euros, followed by Italy with 1.61 billion and Denmark with 1.52 billion euros.

Most of the ten largest trading partners' exports fell.

However, there was a strong increase of 9.3 percent in exports to Italy.

Imports from Ireland increased by almost 700 percent to 1.5 billion euros.

This was due to the import of pharmaceutical and above all immunological products with a volume of more than 1.3 billion euros - after 17 million euros in the previous year.

This moved Ireland to fourth place among the importing countries.

Before that came China with 3.4 billion euros, Denmark with 2.1 billion and Sweden with 1.6 billion euros.
