Erfurt (dpa / th) - The municipalities in Thuringia spent a good 260 million euros more last year than in 2019. That is an increase of 4.5 percent, the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Erfurt.

In total, the expenditures of the municipalities, administrative communities and districts amounted to six billion euros.

The largest single item was personnel costs, which rose by 73.8 million euros to 1.68 billion euros.

The expenditures for social benefits rose compared to the previous year by 7.1 million euros to 1.4 billion euros and formed the second largest expenditure item.

On the revenue side, the municipalities were able to book 6.36 billion euros.

According to statisticians, that was 382.3 million euros more than the year before.

The country's financial allocations, amounting to 3.6 billion euros, accounted for the largest share of total revenue.

Income from taxes and tax-like income amounted to 1.74 billion euros and were thus 99.8 million euros lower than in the same period of the previous year.
