Hanover (dpa / lni) - The preliminary end for the corona vaccinations with the vaccine from Astrazeneca also affects numerous Lower Saxony who should be vaccinated in the coming weeks.

The Ministry of Health in Hanover announced on Tuesday that around 160,000 appointments would have to be canceled or postponed.

Those affected should be informed by the state and automatically receive a new appointment as soon as possible.

“Using the waiting list system, these people will be the first to be given a new appointment as soon as the vaccination centers have the appropriate vaccines.

Over 80-year-olds are given priority, ”it said.

The vaccine from Astrazeneca accounts for around a quarter of the vaccination capacity in Lower Saxony.

Since February 1, there have been 157,523 first vaccinations, second vaccinations have not yet been administered.

The earliest dates for the second Astrazeneca vaccination were given for mid-April.

The country is now awaiting the decisions of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the next steps.

“The current development naturally throws us back a bit in the vaccination campaign.

That's why I hope that the EMA will now make a decision very quickly, ”said Health Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD).
