Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office warns of fraudulent e-mails with alleged application forms for Corona bridging aid.

The senders of these so-called phishing emails pretended to be representatives of the European Commission in Germany and tried to use the falsified forms to access company data, the LKA announced in Munich on Tuesday.

The perpetrators could then use the data to commit fraudulent acts on behalf of the damaged companies.

An LKA spokeswoman has not been able to quantify what financial damage Bavarian companies have suffered from such emails so far.

The office received individual reports that were handed over to the Central Cybercrime Bavaria office at the Bamberg Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to LKA information, mainly small and medium-sized companies are affected.

Such attempts at fraud have been registered again and again since summer 2020, said the LKA.

The office pointed out that in Germany the federal and state governments are responsible for bridging aid in the corona pandemic - and not institutions of the European Union.
