Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) - The youngest predators in the Heidelberg Zoo are anything but scary: Tigress Karis has offspring.

The three boys were born at the end of January, the zoo announced on Tuesday.

According to the information, the first weeks are a critical time for the survival of the cute little ones.

The pups from the mother's first litter last summer died shortly after birth.

Karis and her offspring are Sumatran tigers.

They only occur in the wild on the Indonesian island of the same name.

They are threatened with extinction due to poaching and illegal trade in animal products, for example for traditional Chinese medicine.
