Schwelm / Ennepetal (dpa / lnw) - When the Astrazeneca vaccination appointments were canceled at short notice, an employee of the vaccination center in the Ennepe-Ruhr district had a data protection glitch.

A collective e-mail was sent on Monday with visible e-mail addresses of all addressees to all 1,500 people who had been vaccinated with an appointment that had already been made, as the district announced on Tuesday.

The mail was thus a "clear violation of the basic rules of data protection," it said.

"We apologize to those affected in all kinds of ways."

Efforts were made to inform those affected immediately after receiving the information that vaccination with Astrazeneca had to be suspended.

In this respect, when copying, the addresses were accidentally and "eager to hurry" in the wrong recipient field - "To" instead of "Blind Copy".

The press spokesman emphasized that only the e-mail addresses and no health data were visible.

Among other things, Twitter users had drawn attention to the breakdown.

According to the district, some of those affected have also turned to the district's data protection officer, who will now inform the state officer of the matter.

District Administrator Olaf Schade (SPD) expressed understanding for the annoyance of those affected, but stood behind his authority and the employee who made the mistake: “Without their tireless efforts, their ideas and their knowledge, the vaccination center would not be where it is today stands.

Or in other words: where people work so hard seven days a week, mistakes happen, unfortunately, ”he said.

The "very annoying mistake" is not suitable to put the very good work of all those involved in the vaccination center in a bad light, so Schade.
