Hamburg (dpa) - The suspected corona case in the second division soccer club Hamburger SV has been confirmed.

The club announced on Tuesday.

The affected player is in quarantine.

The responsible health department must now decide whether the entire team and the care staff have to be in quarantine.

"We are in close contact with the health department," it said.

Should the entire team and the support staff actually have to isolate themselves, the game of second in the table on Saturday against 1. FC Heidenheim (1 p.m. / Sky) would be canceled.

The suspected case occurred on Monday morning during a test specially scheduled by the club.

As a result, the afternoon training was canceled.

HSV regularly conducts additional tests on its players on its own initiative in addition to those of the German Football League.

The laboratory evaluation of the official PCR tests on Tuesday now confirmed the result.

The professionals and supervisors then had to come to the Volksparkstadion for a drive-in test, as they did the day before - it was tested while sitting in the car.

The results should be available in the afternoon.

Thereafter, the health department in the Hamburg district of Altona should also determine the further procedure.

The league competitors Holstein Kiel, Hannover 96 and Jahn Regensburg recently reported corona cases and several games had to be postponed.

The entire team and parts of the functional team from Kiel and the players from Hannover 96 are currently in quarantine.

Jahn Regensburg has just ended the quarantine and is playing his first of two catch-up games against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Wednesday (6.30 p.m.).
