Munich (dpa) - As a consequence of the state elections in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate, CSU boss Markus Söder is calling for a new future team for the Union for the federal election in autumn.

"It must not give the impression that after 16 years the Union no longer has any prospects for the future," said the Bavarian Prime Minister on Monday before a meeting of the party executive in Munich.

It must be made clear who the younger ones are who could get involved after the election on September 26th, and for this the Union needs “Teams for the Future”.

Söder also emphasized: “I don't think that an agreement, a hectic cabinet reshuffle, will bring anything to Berlin now.

It is now too quick and too short in time to have a real solution. "

Ultimately, the elections are a “wake-up call” for those in office and an obligation to further develop the teams so that they also have prospects for new people with renewed vigor in autumn, said Söder.

At the same time, Söder also called for a reaction from the entire federal government.

"It is important that the whole cabinet starts again in Berlin," he said.

It takes a "determination to act" before the federal election.
