Berlin (dpa) - In addition to the two German hockey teams and the footballers, the handball players are also at the games in Tokyo.

Some other teams can still hope.

The German Press Agency sends an overview:

Men - The U21 national team of coach Stefan Kuntz qualified by reaching the semi-finals at the EM.

In Tokyo there is an U23 team, the players must be born in 1997 or later.

In addition, Kuntz can nominate three older players.

Women - The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg missed one of three European starting places by being out in the World Cup quarter-finals.

As a result, the Olympics will take place without the 2016 gold winner.

Handball:

Men - The DHB selection secured the ticket for Tokyo at the qualifying tournament in Berlin.

There, the team of national coach Alfred Gislason wants to fight for gold.

Women - The German handball players will not be there.

Eighth place at the 2019 World Cup was not enough to take part in a qualifying tournament for the Olympics.

Seventh rank would have been enough for that.

Basketball:

Men - The German men missed the direct ticket by failing the preliminary round at the World Cup in China, but made the jump to one of four qualifying tournaments.

They have to win this in Split (June 29th to July 4th) in order to be allowed to go to Tokyo.

Women - The German women's national team no longer has a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Basketball 3 against 3:

Men - The German men missed the qualification.

Women - The German women missed the direct Olympic ticket, but at the end of May they are in a qualification tournament in Graz with 20 countries.

It's about three places.

Hockey:

Men - The DHB men bought their Tokyo ticket in November 2019.

At the elimination tournament in Mönchengladbach, the hockey aces won their two duels against Austria.

Women - In the same place, the DHB women prevailed twice against Italy and are therefore also present at the Olympic Games.

Volleyball:

Men - Shortly before the finish line, Georg Grozer's team missed the Olympic ticket.

In the final of the qualifying tournament in Berlin, the volleyball players had no chance against France (0: 3).

Women - The team of coach Felix Koslowski also played through to the final in their elimination tournament in the Netherlands - but lost it against Turkey.

Like five years ago in Rio de Janeiro, both national volleyball teams are missing from the Olympics.

German women took part for the last time in 2004.

Beach volleyball:

Men - 15 of the 24 starting places will be awarded on June 14th via the Olympic ranking.

The best twelve results on the world tour are included in the evaluation.

The vice world champions Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler (Hamburg) are practically already qualified.

A German duo could fight for another ticket via the Continental Cup.

Women - Qualification is the same for women as it is for men.

Karla Borger and Julia Sude (Stuttgart) are currently in tenth place in the ranking.

Olympic champion Laura Ludwig and her partner Margareta Kozuch (Hamburg) would also be there with the current 15th place.

The world association FIVB has now scheduled five world tour tournaments, which count as further qualifications.

Water polo:

Men - The German water polo players were allowed to compete in the Olympic qualification tournament in Rotterdam, but clearly missed a ticket there.

With the disappointing appearance, the time of water polo legend Hagen Stamm as national coach also ended.

Women - The German women took penultimate place at the European Championships and thus also missed a starting place for a qualifying tournament.

Baseball / Softball:

Men / baseball - The DBV men did not make it through to the Olympics.

At the EM in Bonn they did not make it into the top five teams and therefore missed the qualifying tournament for Tokyo.

Women / Softball - The DBV softball team does not go to Tokyo.

The team could not buy a ticket for the Olympic qualification tournament.

Rugby:
