After being recognized by Israel and establishing relations with that country six weeks ago, Kosovo inaugurated its new embassy in Jerusalem on Sunday, the Kosovar Foreign Ministry reported.

In a brief statement published on its official Twitter account, the aforementioned ministry announced

"officially the opening of the embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Jerusalem

.

"

"The promise given in the Oval Office has finally been fulfilled today," he added.

The message thus alluded to the agreement promoted last year by the former president of the United States,

Donald Trump

, when Washington intervened as a mediator in a pact between Kosovo and Serbia on the economic relations of both neighboring countries.

When the documents were signed in Washington in September, Trump announced that Israel would recognize Kosovo's independence, while Pristina promised to open an embassy in Jerusalem.

In another statement, published today by the local Kossev news agency, the Kosovar government affirms that its embassy in Jerusalem "will be

strongly dedicated to increasing bilateral cooperation

and strengthening the international profile of the State of Kosovo."

This Balkan country, with a predominantly Muslim population, has thus become the third in the world to establish its embassy in Israel in Jerusalem, after the United States and Guatemala.

The Czech Republic and Hungary have chosen a middle path by opening their offices in the Holy City, dependent on their embassies in Tel Aviv.

The Kosovar legation was inaugurated by its current head, the Kosovo charge d'affaires in Israel,

Ines Demiri

.

"A truly proud and historic moment for relations. The Republic of Kosovo has officially opened its Embassy in Jerusalem today!" Demiri wrote on his Twitter account.

"The greatest honor of my life is to have this opportunity to open the Embassy and proudly serve my country in Israel," the diplomat added.

The short message is accompanied on the social network by photos that show the entrance of the Kosovar embassy building with the

flags of the two countries

.

Israel and Kosovo established diplomatic relations in a virtual ceremony on February 1, in which the plaque reading "Kosovo Embassy in Jerusalem" was already presented.
