In the state election in Rhineland-Palatinate, which is more politically influenced, the SPD scores points, according to the analysis of the Elections research group, with party prestige, government work and expertise, especially on the subject of Corona.

Her strongest workhorse remains Prime Minister Malu Dreyer, who is one of the most popular country leaders with top scores for performance (good work: 76 percent) and image (2.2 on the + 5 / -5 scale).

Accordingly, 56 percent of Rhineland-Palatinate residents wanted to keep the 60-year-old Dreyer as head of government.

30 percent would prefer CDU challenger Christian Baldauf, who misses the level of the last CDU candidate Julia Klöckner (2016: 1.4) with moderate reputation (1.1 on the + 5 / -5 scale).

The Rhineland-Palatinate CDU also remains rather pale when it comes to reputation and political work.

While the federal government was more important for 36 percent of voters, but state politics for 58 percent, the state CDU (0.8), which was comparatively weak even before the mask affair, is behind the federal party (1.2) in terms of reputation.

In the case of the SPD, the opposite is the case (state: 1.9; federal government: 1.0), although the high level of local appreciation for years can be explained by political work as well as the high reputation of the top staff.

Because the good overall balance of the traffic light coalition (+ 5 / -5 scale: 1.2) is clearly attributable to the SPD (1.5), FDP (0.5) and the Greens (0.3) within the government from.

In the opposition, the CDU remains moderately positive (0.7) in terms of performance, but struggles with falling competence values in the areas of economy, transport, education and the future.

The SPD is also losing out in these political areas, but is making a name for itself on the top issue of Corona, in which it clearly enjoys the most political trust.

FDP (0.0), Greens (0.2) and Free Voters (0.6) remain pale in terms of party reputation.

On the other hand, the FDP can score a bit in the areas of economy and transport, the Greens, in addition to their domain of climate protection, are more often considered competent in the field of transport policy.

Unlike in 2016, the AfD does not have a strong topic with migration, but it does have a massive image problem (minus 3.3) - as a party in which 77 percent of those surveyed see right-wing extremist ideas widespread.

The basis for the SPD election victory again laid the generation 60 plus: In this group, 41 percent (plus one percentage point) vote for the SPD, for all under 60-year-olds the SPD comes to 30 percent (minus five percentage points).

The CDU loses among those aged 60 and over, but remains above average at 33 percent (minus seven percentage points).

Among the under 30-year-olds, the CDU (15 percent, minus eleven percentage points) is now overtaken by the Greens in Rhineland-Palatinate (18 percent, plus nine percentage points), which, however, unlike in Baden-Württemberg in the large group of ab 60-year-olds remain very weak with only five percent (plus three percentage points).

The SPD and Greens are somewhat more successful with women than with men, with AfD and FDP the reverse is true.
