Berlin (dpa / bb) - Of nine direct attacks on money transporters in Berlin in recent years, only one was cleared up in such a way that it led to convictions.

This emerges from a response from the Senate to a request from SPD MP Tom Schreiber.

The perpetrators used pistols, rifles, submachine guns and once a bazooka in the various attacks between 2014 and 2018 and stolen a million euros in at least one case.

However, the list does not include numerous robberies that were not directed against the vehicle but against the money messengers, such as the robbery in December at an Ikea furniture store.

In the police statistics, the offenses are recorded differently.

The robbers who armed with submachine guns struck near Alexanderplatz in 2018 were convicted.

However, they were left empty-handed because they had to leave a getaway car full of money boxes behind.

The bazooka was used in Marzahn-Hellersdorf in 2017, writes the Senate Interior Administration.

But nothing was stolen from it either.

Most of the money was stolen in 2016, the Senate puts the total amount at 6.5 million euros.

At that time, there was an attack in Charlottenburg in the summer, in which the perpetrators escaped with the large booty.

Most recently, on February 19, a money transporter was attacked by at least four perpetrators in front of a bank branch on Ku'damm.

Two security guards were threatened and injured, and the perpetrators fled with cash boxes in a getaway car.
