Munich (dpa) - Oliver Kahn wants to counteract the financial effects of the corona pandemic in the long term by restricting transfer fees and player salaries.

The designated chairman of the board of Bundesliga soccer club FC Bayern Munich expects financial gains again in connection with the Champions League reform in 2024, he said in an interview with the specialist magazine “kicker” (Monday).

But that does not bring any real progress if it immediately increases transfer fees and salaries.

“This spiral has to be broken at some point,” explained the 51-year-old.

He advocates “softer restrictions on salaries within financial fair play”.

This season, the negative effects of the Corona crisis at FC Bayern would be "still within limits," said Kahn.

But "in the coming season we will feel the abrasion marks of the Corona crisis".

Despite the income from the lucrative Champions League, the German record champions no longer live "in a football paradise where milk and honey flow indefinitely".

The former national goalkeeper has been a member of the board of FC Bayern München AG since 2020.

Kahn is to succeed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as CEO at the end of this year.
