Viernheim (dpa / lhe) - The incumbent mayor in Viernheim, Matthias Baaß (SPD), narrowly won the election on Sunday and is now entering his fifth term in office.

Baass received 50.03 percent of the vote and thus just under the absolute majority.

The CDU challenger Bernhard Kammer landed in second place with 24.7 percent, Thomas Klauder (Greens) received around 16 percent of the vote.

The individual applicants Ralf Kempf and Wolfram Theymann only achieved single-digit results.

The turnout was around 45.33 percent.
