Berlin (dpa / bb) - A good 102 years after the murder of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, the Left invites you to quietly remember the two communist leaders on Sunday (10:00 a.m.) in Berlin.

Numerous federal and state politicians from the party are expected to attend the traditional event at the Socialist Memorial at the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery.

Due to the corona pandemic, mask requirements, distance and hygiene rules apply.

Folders should control the flow of visitors.

Every year around January 15, the anniversary of the death of Luxemburg and Liebknecht, Die Linke commemorates the two personalities.

This year the commemoration was postponed due to the corona pandemic, now it will be rescheduled.

At the beginning of January 1919, a revolutionary committee headed by Karl Liebknecht, co-founder of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), declared the government of Social Democrat Friedrich Ebert to be deposed.

There were mass demonstrations.

The "Spartacus uprising" was put down, however.

Right-wing Freikorps soldiers shot Luxemburg and Liebknecht on January 15, 1919 in Berlin.
