Mainz (dpa) - The CDU state chairman in Rhineland-Palatinate and Federal Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner sees the corona pandemic as a key reason for the poor performance of her party in the state elections.
That way, incumbents would always have an advantage in the election campaign.
"And if there is a crisis like this now, it is of course a great opportunity for heads of government," she said on Sunday.
With Christian Baldauf, they had a top candidate who was very convincing if he could get in direct contact with the voters - which was hardly possible in view of the pandemic.
"We could hardly get through with national issues," said Klöckner.
