Hamburg (dpa / lno) - There could be humming and buzzing over the heads of waiting bus passengers in Hamburg in the future.

The parliamentary groups of the SPD and the Greens want to launch a pilot project to green the roofs of passenger shelters.

This will create a habitat for plants, insects and birds, announced the initiators on Sunday.

Green roofs also had a positive effect on the microclimate.

According to the application for citizenship, there are more than 2300 such shelters in Hamburg.

The Hanseatic city would follow the example of numerous cities.

It started years ago with the Dutch city of Utrecht.
