Stuttgart / Berlin (dpa) - According to an analysis by the Elections Research Group, the Greens owe their election victory in Baden-Württemberg to their Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.

This was an "outstanding factor" in the state elections.

80 percent of all people in the country said he had a good job.

Like no other, he embodies the “ideal typical country father”.

"The Green Prime Minister enjoys a high reputation across all camps," says the election analysis.

With an impressively high image value of 2.4 on the + 5 / -5 scale, 69 percent of all those questioned wanted Kretschmann to be Prime Minister, including most of the CDU supporters (56 percent).

Only a total of 14 percent would have spoken out in favor of Susanne Eisenmann as head of government, who, with minus 0.2, recorded one of the worst reputations for CDU candidates in state elections.

The election researchers continue: "The election in Baden-Württemberg has shown that the Greens have long since arrived in the political center."

The support from large sections of the population is also based on very good grades for their government work and their party reputation.

They are again particularly successful among the highly educated and in big cities.

But they are now the strongest party in all age groups.

For the group of voters aged 60 and over, they would have gained 7 percentage points to 35 percent.

The CDU has somewhat greater losses among voters under 45 years of age.

The AfD loses a lot of approval among the under 45-year-olds, the FDP wins here clearly above average.

In terms of its performance, the green-black state government is in a very good position compared with the governments in other federal states with a value of 1.5 on the + 5 / -5 scale.

In terms of government, the CDU (0.8) is visibly behind the Greens (1.3), but receives significantly better marks than the SPD (0.1), FDP (0.3) or AfD (minus 3.0) in the Opposition.

"In terms of the current account in the government, the Greens rarely have a good reputation, which as a state party (1.7) is significantly higher than for the federal party (1.0)," the election researchers continued.

"Exactly the opposite is the case with the CDU, which, with its only modest image as a party in Baden-Württemberg (0.7), is rated clearly worse than the federal party (1.1)."

According to the candidate, political work and reputation, the success of the Greens is explained by an "atypically high attribution of competencies": In earlier CDU domains such as business or education, the Greens are trusted as much as the CDU.

In addition to an overwhelming response to climate protection, the Greens led on the future and foreigners as well as the dominant topic of Corona.

Despite a lot of criticism of crisis management, especially when it comes to vaccination progress or in the area of schools, the Greens are considered the most competent party in matters of Corona.

The SPD is only mentioned a little more frequently in the areas of education, transport and foreigners, otherwise it remains just as politically weak as the FDP or AfD.

According to the analysis, 53 percent of voters want a state government led by the Greens.
