Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Around 4.7 million Hessians are called to cast their votes for the local elections on Sunday.

The votes are about the composition of the municipal councils, the city councils, the local advisory councils and the district assemblies.

In addition, the elections to the advisory councils for foreigners as well as 34 (upper) mayoral elections and 5 district council elections are held.

Due to the corona pandemic, there was a sharp increase in the number of postal voters.

Those entitled to vote also include 423,000 non-German EU nationals.

In Hesse, a total of 20 parties and 585 groups of voters are running for local elections.

That is three parties and 34 groups of voters more than in the vote five years ago.

For example, the CDU, Greens, SPD, AfD and FDP have put up candidates for district elections in all 21 Hessian districts.
