Hungary reported a new record of Covid-19 cases and the number of patients being treated in the country's hospitals also reached a new high.

Health authorities have reported 9,444 new confirmed cases, over a thousand more than the previous record, set on Friday.

The leap came during a rapid spread of the coronavirus variant first discovered in the UK.

Brazil returns second country in the world for number of cases


Brazil has overtaken India for total number of infections from Covid-19.

In the last 24 hours, the South American giant has registered 85,663 new cases, the highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic, for a total of 11,363,380 infections.

New Delhi instead communicated a daily increase of 24,882 for a total of 11,333,728 infections since the appearance of the coronavirus in the Asian country.

The carioca country now occupies the second position in the world behind the United States which has identified 29.3 million infected.

According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, behind the trio are Russia (4.33 million), the United Kingdom (4.26 million), France (4.07 million), Spain (3.18 million) and Italy (3 , 17 million).

South Korea 490 cases, record in the last three weeks


South Korea has recorded another 490 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, never so many in three weeks.

Japan, new variant discovered from the Philippines


A new variant of Covid, initially reported by the Philippines, has been identified for the first time on a man who arrived at Narita airport in Tokyo.

First vaccinations in Tunisia
