But Zidane said he could not predict the future of the player, who has been a pillar of Real Madrid's defense since his move from Seville in 2005, winning 5 La Liga titles and 4 Champions League titles.

"Frankly, I cannot predict what will happen to him. We want him to continue, as he is always an important player for the team and I want him to stay. That is what I can say as a coach," Zidane told a news conference before facing Elche on Saturday.

Alvaro Odriozola, Danny Carvajal and Mariano Diaz will continue to be absent due to injury.

The French coach refused to comment extensively on rumors of a possible return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu after his exit with Juventus from the price of the Champions League final against Porto this week.

"Everyone knows what Ronaldo represents to Real Madrid. Everything he has done and achieved here has been great. But he is currently playing for Juventus and I cannot say more. There has been a lot of speculation but we must respect the player and his club," Zidane said.

Real Madrid are eight points behind La Liga leaders Atlético, and are seeking to win tomorrow in order to continue in the competition for the title they won last season.
