Mainz (dpa) - With warning strikes and protests, IG Metall has opened the fourth round of negotiations in the tariff area in the middle of the metal and electrical industry.

In front of the conference hotel in Mainz, around 300 metal workers demonstrated on Friday, including with a car corso, as a union spokesman reported.

In the course of the morning they wanted to enter the fourth round of negotiations with the employers for the federal states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

IG Metall organized warning strikes in many companies for Friday.

For example, the employees at the Kassel armaments manufacturer Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann, at the Daimler plant in Wörth and at the supplier ThyssenKrupp-Bilstein in Mandern stopped work.

Further warning strikes are also planned for the coming week.

The union is demanding four percent more wages for around 3.8 million employees nationwide - where things are going badly in a company, in the form of wage compensation with working hours reduced to four days.

So far, employers have promised wage increases for 2022 at the earliest and want automatic deviations from the wage level for weaker companies.

The warning strikes started on March 2nd.
