Gelsenkirchen (dpa) - Ralf Rangnick may be about to return to FC Schalke 04. According to a report by the "Bild" newspaper, an unspecified group of influential people from business and politics, including future candidates for the supervisory board, the 62- To guide year-olds as a sports director to the likely relegated team from the Bundesliga.

Rangnick, who coached Schalke in 2004/05 and in 2011, is also a candidate for the successor to national coach Joachim Löw and has already expressed his fundamental interest in it.

Initially, there was neither a reaction from Rangnick nor from the club to the rumored Schalke plans.

According to "Bild", however, there should already be "basic preliminary agreement" between the Rangnick side and the association.

Rangnick is to be equipped with a long-term contract for an expected five years.
