The leaders of the four countries, called the China Containment Council of the United States, Japan, India, and Australia, pledged to cooperate to increase security and respond to threats in the Indo-Pacific on the 12th local time.

In a statement issued after the first quad summit held on the video, the leaders of the four countries said, "We will promote a free and open rules-based order based on international law to promote security and prosperity and respond to threats not only in the Indo-Pacific and beyond. The meeting was attended by US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.



"We are united in a common vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific," said the leaders of the four countries. "We strive for a region that is anchored in freedom, openness, inclusion and democratic values, and free from oppression." .



They also said, "We reaffirm North Korea's commitment to complete denuclearization in accordance with the resolution of the UN Security Council."



It also confirmed the need for an immediate resolution of Japan's long-awaited Japanese abductee problem.



The leaders decided to hold a face-to-face summit until the end of the year, while at the same time meeting the foreign ministers frequently and meeting at least once a year.



After recalling that the Quad was created for cooperation in response to the tsunami in 2004, the leaders added meaning that the security challenges faced in the region had re-summoned the four countries for a new purpose.



Although it did not name China directly, it is an expression that was carefully considered for Chinese checks.



The leaders of the four countries pledged to respond to joint challenges such as responding to Corona 19, climate change, cyberspace and core technologies, anti-terrorism, humanitarian assistance, and maritime sectors.



The leaders also emphasized the role of international law in responding to challenges to maritime order in the East and South China Seas, along with cooperation on future key technologies.



At the meeting, Prime Minister Suga said he was opposed to China's unilateral attempts to change the situation in the surrounding waters, and said he had agreed to cooperate with other leaders on the matter.



Biden's administration has professed a major shift in Trump's foreign policy stance, but has announced its position to succeed and develop as much as a quad as a consultative body to prevent the expansion of China's influence in the Indo-Pacific, the US's top foreign policy area.
