  • The incidence rate in Pays-de-la-Loire remains well below the national average.

  • The effect of vaccination would already be visible in the elderly.

  • But the virus is now believed to progress faster in those under 30.

If it remains globally stable, the coronavirus epidemic in the Pays-de-la-Loire region also remains well below the national average (150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants against 216 in France).

This is why more and more voices are being raised to demand an easing of health restrictions in this region.

But the authorities do not hear it that way and the regional health agency calls for "maintaining vigilance" despite a "feeling of weariness".

According to her, the contamination indicators are maintained at a high level and an acceleration of the circulation of the virus is now observed in those under 30 years old.

“We have to hold out for a few more weeks,” claims Jean-Jacques Coiplet, director of the ARS in Pays-de-la-Loire.

Vaccination is our most important hope.

Countries that vaccinated early show beneficial effects.

In Pays-de-la-Loire, nearly 83% of nursing home residents and 25% of people aged 75 living at home have already received at least one dose of vaccine.

“Vaccination works.

We are starting to see the share of people over 75 in hospitalizations which is really decreasing, ”assures Benoît James, Covid director of the ARS.

This trend is only expected to increase as the number of deliveries of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines is expected to double in the coming weeks.

Maine-et-Loire worries

The ARS is also counting on a rise in temperatures to observe an imminent decrease in the transmission of the virus.

“But the propensity to find each other while taking advantage of sunny days could also have the opposite effect.

We must therefore not relax the barrier gestures, ”insists Benoît James.

The situation is most worrying in Maine-et-Loire.

Massive screenings will therefore be organized this weekend in several municipalities, in particular Cholet, Maulévrier and Beaupréau.

A screening center is also open without an appointment in Angers, including on Saturdays.
