Bochum (dpa) - Hamburger SV has reported back in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga and made the fight to return to the House of Lords exciting again.

With the 2-0 (1-0) victory on Friday evening at the league leaders VfL Bochum, the Hanseatic League ended their negative series of five games without a win and took second place in the table with 46 points ahead of the tied team from Holstein Kiel, whose game at 1. FC Heidenheim was canceled.

For the time being, Bochum remains the front runner with 48 points.

The Revierelf can fall back to second place if they win in the catch-up game in Kiel.

The goals for the guests were scored by Amadou Onana (28th minute) and Khaled Narey (89th).

In the heavy-fighting and sometimes rough game, both teams neutralized each other in the pouring rain for a long time.

The hosts, who continued to compete without their striker Simon Zoller, came to more offensive actions, but did not have the necessary penetrating power in the attack with the already replaced Silvere Ganvoula.

The Hamburg team, who had Onana in the starting line-up for the injured David Kinsombi, took their first best chance after almost an hour thanks to Onana.

The 18-year-old scored 1-0 after a free kick by Aaron Hunt and shortly afterwards was again the main actor after a serious foul by Bochum's Danny Blum, who then saw the red card (34th).

Outnumbered, the hosts, who have not won a home game against HSV for 14 years, pushed hard on the equalizer, but there were no real chances to score.

In the heated final phase, HSV secured a 2-0 victory with the substitute Narey.
