On Friday, Region Sörmland opened the gates for the first major vaccination room important to the public - at Parken Zoo in Eskilstuna.

By appointment, those born in 1944 and earlier were welcome to get their first syringe.

On Saturday, larger vaccination rooms will also be opened in Nyköping and Katrineholm.

And the region has taken measures to prevent the spread of infection on the premises.

- We work a lot to keep our distance and have staff deployed who make sure that a fair amount of people come in.

We provide everyone with mouth protection and there is hand alcohol, says Therese Söderholm, business developer in Region Sörmland.

Around 520 people had signed up for vaccination in Eskilstuna on Friday and on Saturday and Sunday, the region expects around 700 people to receive their first injections.

In the clip, 84-year-old Gerd Ekström tells, among other things, what it was like to get his first vaccination syringe.
