Gasteiz (AP) - The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich must continue to fear for the first participation in the Euroleague playoffs.

The Bundesliga club lost 71:78 (33:33) on Friday after a slump after the break and a futile catch-up against Spanish champions Saski Baskonia VG and missed a better starting position five games before the end of the regular season.

With 18 wins, the Munich team remain in a place that entitles them to the knockout round.

In the middle of the second quarter the Munich team led by 33:29 (17th) and seemed to be getting better and better at the game.

After that, nothing worked.

The hosts made up four points by the break.

In the third round it took over five minutes before Bayern were successful again with two free throws from Vladimir Lucic.

The Spaniards scored as they wanted and led after a 27-2 run with 60:35 (27th minute).

In addition, the Munich team also lost coach Andrea Trinchieri, who had to go into the dressing room after his second technical foul.

With 13 points in a row, Bayern was able to shorten the deficit at the end of the third quarter (45:60) and came closer in the final round (64: 71/36.).

The race to catch up came too late, however, and the defeat was perfect.

Jalen Reynolds scored the best for Munich with 18 points.
