Dresden / Berlin (dpa / sn) - The new corona infection rate continues to rise significantly in Saxony.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) put the 7-day incidence on Friday at 90.9.

On Thursday it was still at 85.2 and on Wednesday at 75.6.

The value indicates the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

The incidence is thus approaching the 100 mark, which is specified in the Corona Protection Ordinance as a critical limit for school openings, for example.

Of all federal states, only Thuringia has an even higher incidence than Saxony, at 146.1.

Nationwide, the value on Friday was 72.4.

The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4.50 a.m., subsequent changes or additions are possible.

Corona hotspot in Saxony remains, according to RKI figures, the Vogtlandkreis with an incidence of 252.8.

With the districts of North Saxony (103.7), Zwickau (125.7) and the Erzgebirgskreis (118.8) three other regions have again recorded three-digit values.

The city of Leipzig continues to have the lowest incidence nationwide with 44.7.

The number of people who died from or with the coronavirus increased by 26 to a total of 8,097 by Friday.
