Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The makers of the Expo pavilion of the state of Baden-Württemberg for the world exhibition in Dubai are making progress in the search for sponsors.

"We now have around a dozen sponsors on board," said a spokesman on Friday in Stuttgart.

And one is confident that more will be added.

The spokesman did not name any supporters.

Several well-known companies from the southwest called for participation in the Expo pavilion.

For example, the tunnel builder Herrenknecht, the anchor manufacturer Fischer, the cleaning equipment company Kärcher and the cable manufacturer Lapp are advertising in a letter for participation in the state's stand.

The "Südwest Presse" had previously reported on it.

The companies describe the Expo pavilion in the letter as “a huge opportunity to expand our networks, explore new markets and use the huge media presence of the mega-event”.

The spokesman said: "Dubai as an economic hub for the entire region speaks for the event."

Until recently, the Expo pavilion had employed members of the state parliament in a committee of inquiry, as the costs for it had skyrocketed, from 3 to an expected 15 million euros.

A project company should actually finance the pavilion entirely with the help of companies.

But because sponsors withdrew their commitments, the country stepped in.
