The Council of State-Fourth Section, awaiting the hearing on 13 May next, accepted the request for suspension presented by ArcelorMittal and Ilva in As against the closure of the hot area of the steel plant in Taranto.

The effects of the sentence of the TAR of Lecce were thus frozen, which had imposed on the applicants to comply with the ordinance on the emissions of the mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Melucci, and to proceed within 60 days of notification, i.e. by 14 April, to plant shutdown.

The production activity of the plant can therefore continue regularly.

On 13 February, the TAR defined the danger for the population linked to emissions from the steel industry "permanent and immanent".

The provision states that the plant, which now sees the State, through Invitalia, support ArcelorMittal in its management, is still polluting.

And it is pointed out that not even the respect of the Hague entails "in itself a guarantee of the exclusion of risk or health damage".
