There are three words that outline the mythological outline of
Pocholo Martínez-Bordiú: Ibiza, backpack and party.
There has traditionally been another, which is
Franco
, and who over time has been losing weight in favor of Balearic hedonism and television histrionics, but it should not be forgotten that José María Martínez-Bordiú, that is his real name, if for the first time He came to be in the pink chronicle was because he
was part (far away, yes) of the dictator's family.
Let's quickly get rid of the genealogy: his father, José María Martínez-Bordiu Sr., nobleman of Spain and XVII baron of Gotor from whom Pocholo has inherited the title;
He is the 18th ordinal, he was the brother of Cristóbal Martínez-Bordiú, Marquis of Villaverde, who married Carmen Franco and therefore deserved the nickname of the
Yernísimo
.
Which means that Pocholo
is a cousin
of the main line of descendant of the Francos: Francis, Carmen, the wayward Cristóbal and the once hippie María del Mar, alias Merry, whom we remember today, regretfully, for having been the first wife of the writer
Jimmy Giménez-Arnau
.
In fact, Pocholo is Merry's godfather, and they share a common fondness for horses.
In his memoir
Me, Jimmy.
Mi vida entre los Franco
(Planeta, 1981), Giménez-Arnau portrayed the family as a group of
crazy, spoiled posh and careerists
who sucked all their privileges from the carom of having been related to the Franco family with special resentment towards the Marquis of Villaverde, who he always left like a fool to hold on and don't wiggle, but there was only one Martínez-Bordiú for whom he had good words.
"Josemari has always been for me", said Jimmy,
"the gentleman
that I have met under the surname Martínez-Bordiú. He is the
cult
, the one who has
a high sensitivity
for everything concerning art, merciless good humor, kindness made elegance and
the fastest, cerebrally speaking,
of the whole family. [...] With such penetrating humor he should write a book ".
Unfortunately, Pocholo's book does not exist, but we do have his DJ mix, something that is as frightening as it is adorable in clubber terms, and his journey through the pink chronicle, which for years has presented us with a
wild, excessive, screaming character.
and despite appearances, smarter than red mice.
Although he is officially an aristocrat, Pocholo never wanted to live an urban and courteous life, and from a very young age he already
felt the call of adventure.
He always preferred the sarong to purple: he became a
hippie, discovered Ibiza,
settled on the island and since then has lived almost entirely dedicated to his passions, which are
nature, animals, surfing,
conditioning gel and nightclubs. .

During his youth he devoted himself to worldly things,
tried it as an actor,
and appeared briefly in two episodes of the
Miami Corruption
series
;
He
was
also a
model,
but since it was the night he was driving him, he got involved in the Ibiza clubbing circuit and tried his luck as an aspiring DJ and PR.
Blonde hair blowing in the wind, with an Apollonian demeanor and a jaw to the rhythm of house, Pocholo was seen a lot by
Pachá, Amnesia and all the temples of the party,
always close to the gods of techno.
Suddenly, it began to appear on TV, it
was a
Tómbola
classic
for several years,
and instead of talking about what people might be interested in at first, such as the Franco family and the scandals of his cousins, which Pocholo was concerned about the
urbanization of Ibiza,
the management of licenses for nightclubs and having to set foot on the peninsula so often, which prevented him from spending the weekend at nightclubs or
sunrises on the beaches,
that magical hour in which he was already He could look forward to a glorious morning of water skiing, another of his hobbies.
He presented us with
the image of a wealthy hedonist
who was more concerned with the quality of ecstasy than the cultivation of material glory.
Pocholo, during the 90s, was succeeded as until recently by Tamara Falcó: she was a niche character, for night freaks or sentimental chroniclers of post-Francoism, but not many people were aware of
her machine-gunned way of speaking, of his abrupt gestures,
of his tendency to gather his hair while he ran the corner of his mouth with
a tongue that seemed drier than a mop.
Pocholo was a guilty pleasure for a minority looking for eccentric characters, but not yet mainstream.

The great take-off, as is known, was with the
Hotel Glam
program
, that
Telecinco
reality show
that was a kind
of past stimulating
Big Brother
in which a group of famous grotesques lived together in a luxury hotel and took them on excursions.
Pocholo was the one who
put the audience in the bag,
especially when we found that being in the hotel was torture for him: he
had party withdrawal syndrome, he
was constantly threatening to leave because he missed Ibiza and
did not separate from his backpack,
a dirty rag with which he had done all kinds of hippie hikes and camping.
The excessiveness of his behavior and his screams is remembered more than that accusation of his reality partner Yola Berrocal, who assured that, in
a moment of edredoning,
Pocholo ejaculated on her hair.
After the
Hotel Glam
bombing
,
Pocholo was able to rebuild his dream of being an integral, central and protagonist part of the Ibiza nightlife.
He tried to be a DJ,
a dream he had since his youth, and even
recorded an album
with Vale Music,
May God save the cows and to2 us
(2003), a double session CD with progressive house, trance and deep songs. house with which Pocholo wanted to emulate his booth idols: DJ Tiësto, Sven Väth, John Digweed, Carl Cox, etc.
It was a CD-mix atrocity, with cow bellowing and bird chirping among the epic highs of the Dutch progressive, and of course it
didn't have any repercussions,
although he was able to mount a tour of Spain,
in his caravan,
DJing through the towns.
On one occasion,
they greeted him with bottles.
Pocholo was punk.

That was his most notable contribution to the circus part of Ibiza and clubbing, and it led him to be the protagonist of one of the first programs of La Sexta when the chain was born,
Pocholo Ibiza 2006
, a reality show in which we could see
what it was like his hippie life on the island.
Since then, Pocholo has kept
a low profile: he
has lowered his presence in the media, he has not released records again, his career as a DJ failed, he has not starred in
reality shows
, but he
has maintained his interests in Ibiza,
he has not sullied the title Count of Gotor and has been a regular at parties, where he was invited or charged, but never going to the box office.
And despite Pocholo's shortage of novelties in more than a decade, the myth persists: we are facing one of the Spaniards who
best embodies the party's drive,
what The KLF, with tremendous success, called "the eternal dawn".
In the empire of Carlos V the sun never set, and in Pocholo's Ibiza, even at 58 years old, what happens is that it
never dawns.
