The metropolis of Lyon experienced a new episode of urban violence on Wednesday.

Several vehicle fires have thus been identified in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon and in the neighboring town of Feyzin (Rhône), four days after a series of disturbances in the metropolis.

The Rhône prefecture indicates that police forces and firefighters have been sent to the 8th arrondissement and to Feyzin after the report of fire starts around 6 p.m.

“Vehicles and garbage cans have been burned.

The police and firefighters are working on both sites, ”says the prefecture, which has not noted any clashes between the perpetrators of these fires and the police.

Around 7 p.m., calm had been restored in the district of Mermoz (Lyon 8th), crisscrossed by the police.

A few piles of still smoking debris hampered traffic and several tubes of mortars littered the ground.

"No regrouping, effusion or gathering" in Feyzin

In Feyzin, in the southern suburbs of Lyon, the municipal police were alerted, also around 6 p.m., for car fires in the districts of Geraniums and Moors.

"Six vehicles were set on fire," reveals the mayor of the town Murielle Laurent (PS).

"Things are back to normal, the firefighters are doing the job," she added.

Here too, "no regrouping, outpouring or gathering" was observed, assures the elected official.

For its part, the prefecture reported the arrest of a suspect in Feyzin.

The metropolis of Lyon experienced an outbreak of urban violence last week, which left the La Duchère district (Lyon 9th) on Thursday after the scooter accident of a 13-year-old teenager, still in a coma.

Aftershocks occurred the following two evenings in the neighboring towns of Rillieux-la-Pape and Bron.

The Lyon public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday the opening of a judicial investigation into the La Duchère accident.

The young people of the neighborhood accuse the police of being involved in the incident, which the latter formally denies.
