11 March 2021 In Florence there are two cases of Indian variant.

Affected is a nurse, already vaccinated with two doses of Pzifer, who is immunosuppressed.

The woman fell ill until she was admitted to the hospital now she is healed.

The other case concerns an unvaccinated man hospitalized in the Florentine hospital of Ponte a Niccheri.

Between the two, according to what has been specified, no contact has ever occurred.

To date, 347 cases have been reported in Italy for this variant and there are only a few thousand worldwide. "Unfortunately, current vaccines seem unable to block it. Laboratory tests have shown that the neutralizing antibodies that form after vaccination fail to offer protection against this particular variant." Thus Pietro Dattolo, president of the Order of Doctors of Florence after the investigation of the first case of an Indian variant in the city.

"Our concern - writes the medical order of Florence in a note - is linked to the information in the literature that reveals that many neutralizing antibodies may not be used to block these variants. For this reason it is urgent to speed up the vaccination campaign"
