Miami (AP) - Ironman world champion Anne Haug stopped a positive result after a corona test shortly before her first race this year.

The 38-year-old triathlete confirmed this on social networks on Thursday evening.

"This news is devastating," said Haug.

She was so looking forward to competing against the best athletes in the world in the race this Friday at Homestead Miami Speedway in the US state of Florida.

Instead of swimming over 1.5 kilometers, cycling 60.3 kilometers and running 16.9 kilometers, Haug will have to spend the next few days in quarantine in the US state.

She had been in isolation since her arrival due to the hygiene and safety measures for the race.

Because of the positive result, Haug had to leave the hotel of the participants.

"I wish my colleagues the best of luck," she said and announced that she would follow the race in her quarantine.

According to Haug, he has no complaints: "I am very happy that I am feeling good at the moment."

Haug missed victory in a comparable race in Daytona at the beginning of December after a controversial time penalty and took second place.

In October 2019, she became the first German to win the World Cup in Hawaii.
